Saturday, November 17, 2007

Deciding that you want to rent a Florida vacation home is the easy part. Finding a good villa rental is the problem! There are plenty of good ones out there, but how do you sort through the maze?

You know the story. You decide that it is a great idea to stay in a rental near Disney World. You know that it makes sense to stay in a vacation home - so much more space than an hotel, fabulous value and best of all, your own home away from home. A sanctuary to return to after a day in the theme parks.

So you start your vacation home search on the internet. You are excited. You are optimistic. Why after less than an hour of looking for a Florida vacation homes are you ready to give up?

Because you are overwhelmed. There is so much out there that it is difficult to sort through and find exactly what your family needs.

This is a good thing. So long as you have some guidance and direction!

Think about what you want from your Orlando vacation rental home. Do you want the equivalent of a cheerful discount motel chain or do you want the 5 star treatment on a resort like Windsor Palms? Is the cost the most important thing or do you want value? Are you fine with the minimum or do you want upgraded to the max? Decide this before you begin your search so that you can narrow down your options.

So when you know what kind of home you are looking for, how do you find a good one? Start by finding some websites that you like. It is a good idea at this stage to limit yourself to a manageable number.

Contact the vacation home owner and ask as many questions as you need to. You can learn a lot from the responsiveness of the owner at this stage. If they won't answer your questions now and are not helpful now, how will it be if there is an unexpected problem with the house when you arrive?

Narrow your choice down to two or three and then discuss it with the rest of the party who are going to be staying at the house with you.
