Being A Great Party Host

Friday, April 6, 2007

Hosting a party is always fun. However, it takes a lot of preparation to make sure that you and your party both are ready for your guests to enjoy.

As a host, always remember you are the reason for the party. You are the glue that holds everything together. Unless you are inviting a close-knit group of friends, a lot of your attendees might be meeting for the first time. Whether close friends or strangers, just keep in mind that you are going to be "on" all night. So, be sure that you are prepared before the first guest is scheduled to arrive. Put yourself in your guests’ shoes; there is nothing like attending a party that is not ready to start when you arrive. You want to make your first guest feel as welcomed as the ones that come well into the party. To do this you might want to enlist some of your close friends to help with preparation and tasks during the party. Depending on the celebration size, you may not be able to navigate every aspect of the event. Ask a friend to be in charge of taking coats when your guests arrive or making sure that there is enough ice for drinks during the course of the party. You can even hire staff that could be dedicated to these tasks as well.

To prepare yourself mentally and physically, give yourself time to relax before your guests arrive. You might want to pamper yourself with a pre-party spa day, treat yourself to a drink before the party starts, meditate, or perform another relaxation ritual. No matter what, be sure to prepare everything ahead of time and do all that you can to ensure that YOU and YOUR PARTY shine.
