Hippies Will Enjoy a Retro Party Theme

They might live in the suburbs disguised as accountants and stock brokers but they were once hippies. A retro themed party is sure to bring a smile to the face of any all grown up flower child. It seems highly unlikely that these upstanding citizens were once the scruffy problems of an earlier generation nevertheless it's true.

What better way to remind aging hippies of that by gone era than the music and colorful images of the past. Tie-dyed t-shirts, bell bottomed pants and posters with peace symbols are all that's needed to evoke the mental images of the past.

While day-glow colors are perfect to brighten the occasion, there are few bakeries which can duplicate these in cake icing. It may be necessary to use plastic cake decorations to reproduce the electric colors that typified the era. Orange may have been the most eye-popping of these!

Use a home scanner to make computer reproductions of favorite photos of the guest of honor wearing his best Sixties apparel. Maybe a bit embarrassing to some but a shining example of the stories they are always telling the youngsters for others.

Paper party goods should make the hippie themed party a little easier to clean up after and reflect the decorating theme. Try to find bright festive colors for all of the table settings and even the plastic flatware. No minimalism allowed!

Don't take nostalgia too far though as there are plenty of things about the present that can be drawn upon to further the festive moods. When younger guests seem to be growing tired of listening to elder-rock then its okay to turn the music over to a newer popular form! If they seem a little uncomfortable in retro garb its time to open up the pool or other entertainment option.
